Completing 50 glorious years in the industry, yesteryears star Dharmendra will be seen after a hiatus in movie Yamla Pagla Deewana (YMD), which is to be released tomorrow. For sure, the movie is special for Pajji, but what makes it even better is the chemistry he shares with the other two lead actors in the movie: The Deol Brothers, Sunny and Bobby.

However, one could only hope the characters playing the role of Yamla, Pagla, and Deewana. But evergreen Dharmendra has something else to say. “We all play these roles in life – sometimes, we exchange with one another. In the movie, I think I play the role of Yamla, Sunny is Pagla and Bobby, Deewana,” laughs the star. Directed by Karnik, the film, releasing on January 14, is a comedy of confusion where the Deol’s will be seen in an all new avatar. “The movie will be a total entertainment. It’s packed with a lot of emotions and drama, and we share great chemistry in the movie,” said veteran actor Dharmendra.

While the actor has done a comeback in the silver screen after a long time, he does admit that staying out of movies was unintentional. “This is part and parcel of the industry. I stayed quiet – not that I wanted to – but, things, I suppose were meant to be that way,” says the actor. “Now, there are many new comers who are doing great job. It’s their time, and audience love to see them in the screen.” Speaking about the changing trend in the industry, he says, “I love the change that the industry has gone through. Today, people demand a different script. It’s no more one of those stories that tend to go on and on. People want short and crispy stories. They are intelligent audience”. “Back in our time, there was a lot of time, and people wanted to enjoy seeing the drama those movies had. It’s a passé now,” laughs the actor.

This, however, doesn’t mean that the actor is in any mood to retire. Given a chance, the veteran actor is willing to take up many projects in the coming days, and hopes to continue for a long time. “Learning is a process, and I am still learning. It’s has been great working in YMD, and I hope that I get to work more on movies of these kind. I would love to do anything that tickles the heart of people,” says the actor. So, even of that means doing a reality show? “Yes,” exclaims Dharmendra. Ask him about Bangalore, the actor replies, “The city is very close to my heart. In fact, there was a time when I wanted to live in this city, even bought a land somewhere close to Banerghatta. Sholay was shot in Ramnagaram, which still brings back a lot of memories onto my mind.” He added, “This time, I came in here almost after ten years, and I see the place has changed a lot. I loved the airport and the road to the city. It’s a pleasure to have come here.”

For son Sunny, it’s a fun-filled movie and a must-watch this year. YMD is a story of Dharam Singh played by Dharmendra and Gajodhar Singh played by Bobby who are the biggest conmen of Banaras. They are best friends and enjoy drinking and pulling off hilarious cons together. Sunny Deol plays the role of an honest NRI who comes to India from Vancouver.  When asked how audience would react seeing the muscle man in a role like that. He replies, “I think that image that I have got is only through the kind of movies I have done so far. People tend to associate the actor with a particular image that they see him in a role over and again. It has been the case with me,” laughs Sunny. “This is a different movie, with a different script. It’s total entertainment.”

For sure, the expectation s are high, for Sunny is even planning for a sequel to the movie. “Yes, it is something that I have thought of, but we can only think about it once the movie hits the screen. It has to be well received by the audience, and if it really does, then there can surely be a sequel to the movie.
