Wipro, observed ‘Bus Day’ today across its campuses in Bangalore to promote the use of buses amongst its employees. As part of ‘Bus Day’ more than 10,000 Wipro employees used public transport instead of self-owned transport.

Wipro & BMTC started an initiative in May 2009 under which a new set of bus routes were introduced from across Bangalore to Wipro’s Electronic City campus. For this initiative, Wipro offered BMTC facilities like parking space for the buses within the Wipro campus, restroom, resting & refreshments facilities for the bus staff. Though these buses terminate at the Wipro campus their services can be availed by all citizens alike.

On a normal day, these buses make about 200 trips, but on occasion of ‘Bus Day’, they made over 325 trips, suggesting an overwhelming response from its employees.

On occasion of ‘Bus Day’ a lot of senior management at Wipro also used public transport; these include Mr. Laxman K Badiga - Chief Information Officer, Wipro, Mr. Manish Duggar - Chief Financial Officer, Wipro Technologies and Mr. Ram Ramakrishnan - Vice President-Facilities Management Group, Wipro. Wipro also distributed ‘Bus Day’ badges and caps to the BMTC staff and also arranged for a special lunch for all of them.

Talking on occasion of ‘Bus Day’, Laxman K. Badiga, CIO, Wipro said, “Using pooled transport goes well with Wipro’s philosophy of being a responsible corporate, and initiatives like ‘Bus Day’ are steps towards promoting pooled transport.”
