The Elle Carnival for breast cancer took place in its entire splendor at the Taj West End where the fashion joined hands to spread awareness about breast cancer. It is a unique way to raise funds, since the designer-wear is affordably priced under Rs 5,000, enabling a wider audience to contribute and be a part of the initiative.
Designers like Tarun Tahiliani, Rohit Bal, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Sabyasachi, Kavita Bhartia, Anamika Khanna, Shantanu & Nikhil, Malini Ramani, Gauri and Nainika donated their creations to raise funds. There was also a silent auction featuring designer merchandise from prestige brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Just Cavalli, Tod’s, Victorinox, Mirari, Tag Heuer, Gucci, Christian Dior, Ermenegildo Zegna, Salvatore Ferragamo and Armani.
It is a huge way of raising funds as all the merchandise and accessories were at throw away prices. The Carnival also featured several fun activities like tarot-reading, massages, fortune-telling, innovative games like can cancer, ring cancer and basketball. “It is hard to ignore the statistics that one in 30 women in urban India runs the risk of developing breast cancer,” says Nonita Kalra, editor-in-chief, ELLE. “But the good news is that a simple self-examination that takes only 15 minutes and that's all it takes to detect the disease. Early detection can lead to a complete cure. With these facts it is imperative to increase awareness – we want young women, to have a healthy, happy future. And this is the way we can ensure it.”
