On your way to fitness with STOTT Pilates!
STOTT Pilates is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by Joseph Pilates. The STOTT Pilates method also includes modifications to cater to many different body types and abilities, making it applicable to everyday life.
‘Work your body, work your mind’ is the philosophy behind The Zone Mind and Body Studio in Bangalore. Started in 2001, The Zone Mind & Body studio is a brain child of Anjali and Sharat Sareen and the duo is passionate about mind-body fitness and the difference that it can make in people’s lives. They launched the Pilates Programme in 2006 and have been committed towards education and spread of the Pilates Movement across India. The Zone conducts classes in step, hi-lo aerobics, cardio-boxing, boot-camp, strength-training, flexibility training, karate, tai chi, dance, and yoga, but it mainly specializes in Pilates.
Talking about it Anjali says, “Pilates an excellent mind-body exercise system that addresses a need of people who want to move away from traditional exercise programs. STOTT Pilates is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates which incorporates modern exercise principles, including contemporary thinking about spinal rehabilitation and athletic performance enhancement, making it one of the safest and effective methods available,”
Each session is designed as a 45 minute workout with a choice of either individual or group sessions. “These small, personalized sessions allow customized attention and close monitoring of each participant’s form and technique, ensuring that each one of them gain the maximum benefit. The focus is on quality of movement rather than quantity, with a balanced approach which ensures that no one muscle group is overworked and that the body works as an efficient, holistic system in sport and daily activity,” She says.
She adds, “Pilates can be done by itself or integrated with other forms of exercise to actually improve and achieve better performance in a wide range of activities, e.g., horse riding, tennis, golf, cricket, swimming, running, basketball, cycling, etc. It improves cardiovascular efficiency and endurance, while strengthening the core, which results in better posture and neutral body alignment, a solid foundation for improving results from strength training. In disciplines such as martial arts and dance, Pilates not only creates a higher body awareness but through better posture, stability and balance it helps to create a stronger, more stable base with which to work,”
Anjali who is the only STOTT Pilates Instructor in India trains and examines instructors. She says, “We have witnessed an increasing interest in Pilates and wanted to play a leadership role in educating the Pilates instructors of tomorrow so we offer special certification programmes in STOTT Pilates,"
The Zone also launched its purpose-built Studio in Whitefield last month and the studio offers group, individual, and duet classes in both Reformer and Mat based Pilates, as well as other group activities including Tai-Chi, Yoga, Karate, and Dance. Anjali says “The new studio mirrors the style and philosophy of our original Koramangala Studio where workouts are held in a welcoming and energizing atmosphere, with state of the art equipment under fully certified and experienced Pilates instructors.”
