Jyoti Chandran Devaraj's love for handloom
fabrics began during her stay in her native village Kannur in Kerala. She has lived closely in the handloom town and has seen handmade and hand woven fabrics closely. And her love for linens begins from there. “Most fabrics that are made in India get exported and the ones that we get in the domestic markets are not of a superior quality. Since I lived in the village for a long time and know the weavers closely they supply me the best quality of linen fabric,” she says.

She launched her JCB line to cater to the Indian palette, “We Indians love our curries and spices and we love everything that’s bright and long lasting. Linens which are exported abroad are usually in pastel shades. And the pastel shades will not appeal to us because even a drop of our curry will spoil the look. But then this line has dark shades to match our taste.” It is an exclusive range of table cloths with embroidery, border trimmings and block prints. Also, on sale will be place mats, table runners, hand painted and embroidered table napkins, block print cushion covers and hand-loom ready-made curtains. The regular table linen like oven mittens, pot holders, aprons, floor mats are also be on sale.

Apart from designing a whole range of table clothes Jyoti also supplies bone china. The crockery especially comes from Khurja, a small town in Uttar Pradesh where crockeries are hand baked, hand painted, “The potters bake the china in huge furnace and everything from designing to painting is done there.” Just J introduces - The Mughal Collection - a new serve-ware range, bowls and dishes with lids in different shapes and sizes. The collection comes in Royal Blue, Red and Golden Brown colors.
The products are priced at Rs. 250 onwards, she retails her collection at Sanctuary on Hospital Road. For more information you can visit her blog: http://jyoti-creativedesign.blogspot.com/
