Suman Mishra Jewellery Collection “Arboreal Awakenings”

Suman Mishra's "Arboreal Awakenings" only at ffolio, Vittal Mallya Road from April 3rd to 17th, 2010

As the winter shade of pale retreats making way for the sensuous surrealness of spring, jewelry designer Suman Mishra launches her Spring-Summer ’10 collection aptly titled “Arboreal Awakenings” with a special promotion from April 3rd to 17th2010, exclusively at ffolio, Vittal Mallya Road, Bangalore. Suman Mishra’s “Arboreal Awakenings” comprises 32 styles of earrings and necklaces that abound in this breezy spring palette inspired by the workings of the season and reflected in the myriad musings of nature.

From the first sprouting of delicate, shiny, new leaves to the scent of fresh blossoms — Mishra’s eclectic designs capture the first signs of life. Silhouettes created in the outline of leaves and shoots recreate the effect of freshly sprouted leaves on barren branches. Chandelier earrings muse mystically like fluttering infant leaves in the refreshing spring breeze.  The designer’s romance with nature is a recurring theme as she draws heavily from her vagrant wanderings in the Delhi Ridge forest that gently caress her New Delhi home.

Jewellery from Suman Mishra’s latest Spring Summer 2010 Collection – “Arboreal Awakening” is priced between Rs 1400 and Rs 4350, will be available at ffolio, at Vittal Mallya Road from April 3rd to 18th 2010. Thereafter select pieces of her collection will be on display on the same venue.

Suman Mishra trained in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work from TISS, Mumbai. She did a stint in Journalism soon after, before “discovering” jewelry design in 2003.  Mishra works directly with artisans and creates authentic hand-crafted pieces. “I design for those with a youthful and eclectic sense of fashion,” says the self-taught designer adding, “My pieces can provide that extra something you need to take your styling to the next level or to just make your look more individualized.”

A lover of nature, Mishra finds nature’s rules of proportion and colour resonating with her innate aesthetic sensibilities. Mishra lives right next to the Delhi Ridge forest and she makes the most of it. Her explorations of the forest (with her two dogs in tow) always refresh and inspire her. She also connects and draws from History and Archaeology. Art is also something that informs her sensibility, especially the works of the Impressionists. Being a practicing Buddhist, her faith helps her connect to the rhythm in her overall surroundings. Her yellow inspiration wall or the “sunny side wall” in her home-office comprises an interesting collection of rocks, leaves, seeds, bottles, shells, beads, flowers, Frida Kahlo prints and Buddha Statuettes.

Her design philosophy-
Mishra’s creations are not ethnic, but often inspired by traditional silhouettes and motifs, yet, in step with right here, right now. While being youthful and fun, her pieces are timeless and are bound to become the classics in your jewelry box.
