In an exclusive interview with MyBangalore.com, singer Akon says, he is thrilled to be celebrating his birthday among his fans in India.
Yes, yes! The mega concert is just two days away and every Akon lover in the city can’t wait to see the star perform live. This time around the excitement is even more because the singer will bring in his 38th birthday on April 16 at Gurgaon amidst thousands of fans before he grooves with Bangloreans on April 17 at Palace Grounds.
Bringing In His Birthday
“I couldn’t think of a better birthday gift for myself than to be with my amazing fans in India. This trip is mainly planned to show how much I adore my fans here and their appreciation really means a lot to me. That’s why I narrowed down on New Delhi and Bangalore and it will be a great way to experience both the extremes of India. I wish I had time to perform all over India but on my birthday this year I want my fans from all across India to join me in the celebration,” says the Mr. Lonely artist. On this occasion, however, Akon is not exactly a loner for sure.
His Khan Buddy
Sources say that a day prior to his concert he would be throwing a pre-birthday bash and will be celebrating it with none other than the King Khan. His association with Shahrukh Khan has grown stronger and stronger over the years. The singer has also recorded a song for him. “I am great friends with Shahrukh Khan and it’s always a pleasure to meet the icon. This time around I have done a soundtrack for him for his forthcoming flick Ra.1 and the experience was fantastic. I am glad I could do it,” admits Akon who has also worked with the famous Indian composer Aadesh Shrivastava several times.
Akon loves Indian cinema and if given an opportunity to work in Hindi movies he would never say a no. He tells us, “I love Indian cinema and Bollywood. I have great admiration for a lot of Indian artists and for those in cinema. If I am ever offered a role I would be more than happy to do so and I would consider it,” Hope our directors are listening in!
His New Arena
Akon is extremely elated about his new album Stadium and considers it very close to his heart. “You cannot imagine how happy I really am. I am very excited about this album. I was extremely influenced and intrigued by different sounds around me as I was constantly traveling during that period of time. I had made so many records at that time and that feeling pushed me to do something different this time. I have tried to mix World music with hip hop. And the whole idea came to me when I was composing for the World Cup,” explains Akon.
Talking about music and his favourite singers, he states that it was a moment of a lifetime to have worked with The King of Pop Himself. “I consider myself really lucky to have worked with MJ for Hold My Hand. He was one of the most humble guys I have met in my entire life. I cherish those memories forever,” says Akon who loves all kinds of music from jazz to old school music like Billie Holiday and Stevie Wonder. “I love Phil Collins and country music as well,” he smiles and concludes.
