Food Review: Begin your new love affair with Chinese cuisine at Mandarintrail
Chinese, one of the most popular cuisines in India, is now available with a unique taste which Bangaloreans are bound to relish. Explore the world of Chinese cuisine with authentic flavors at Mandarintrail in Mantri Mall.
Mandarintrail at Mantri Mall is an uptown Chinese restaurant that sets the stage for elegant and classy dining. The delectable Chinese cuisine captures the traditional cooking styles of Mandarin region in China. The décor is imbued with splashes of red and dark wood, giving the restaurant a chic and sophisticated look. The colours and the soft lighting infuse the interior with a warm, orangey glow that is welcoming. With a private dining room that can host 10 - 12 guests and a deliciously appetizing buffet spread that goes on till late in the noon, the restaurant is a great place for cozy gathering, or even a dinner date with friends or family.
Mandarintrail serves authentic Chinese dishes with a contemporary twist and offers a wide variety of choices that is guaranteed to satisfy every palate. We headed to Mandarintrail on a busy weekday, and thought it would be just another new ‘Chinese’ place in town, but we were truly blown away with the variety this restaurant offers. We started off by trying out some of their quirky mocktail concoctions which were quite refreshing and complement the food beautifully. As we sipped on our drinks, we were joined by Arati Rao, the Restaurant General Manager who expertly guided us through rest of the meal. She suggested we try some of their light and flavoursome soups to prepare our palate for the sensory explosion, and true to her word, they were quite delicious.
The Spicy Coriander Chicken Soup had a beautiful texture and has pieces of chicken, coriander and fresh green chillies for its tang and color. The Veg Manchow Soup has a zing of freshness and can be the ultimate comfort food when you’re down and out. For starters we tried the Crackling Spinach with Almonds which quite didn’t match upto our expectations. However we totally relished the Assorted Dumplings Platter, which has a wide variety of dim sums from Broccoli and Cashew nut to Prawn Crystal to Roast Chicken Butterfly dumplings. These bite-sized morsels are packed with sweet and savory flavors that will tease your taste buds and leave you asking for more. What made the experience all the more interesting was the company, by now we were busy discussing about almost everything under the sun. The topic at one point even veered towards the ‘weird’ things that we’ve dared to put in our mouth.
As we were busy chatting up, the main course made its way to the table, we tried the Crispy Orange Chicken which has rinds of orange and is mildly flavoured with spices. The chicken is succulent and slightly sweet but it delightfully complements the Yongchow Fried Rice. The Stir fried Prawns with Red Chilli served with Hakka Noodles is light and fragrant, unlike many other prawn dishes which tend to be overtly cooked and pungent. For the vegetarians there’s a wide variety to choose from, you can sink your teeth into the Stir Fried Eggplant with Szechwan pepper which is unique and appetizing. However the pinnacle of the meal was the Chocolate spring rolls and toffee walnut with vanilla ice-cream. Luscious and filled with chocolate, the fusion of various flavours and textures proves to be a complete success. Though the service was quite slow, what really stands out is that Mandarintrail brings the traditional taste of China, fused together perfectly to leave its trail behind.
A meal for two will cost Rs. 1500
