In Pictures: Akon leaves Bangalore spellbound
The audience swayed to the tunes of the singer Akon, who performed at the Palace grounds in Bangalore during his India tour. Akon’s thunderous performance drove the crowd wild which totally made up for his late entry.
Senegalese-American singer and songwriter Akon regaled thousands of his fans by belting out some of his popular numbers at a late night concert here on Sunday at Palace Grounds. The international Grammy-nominated and multi-platinum artist, whose worldwide sales top 7 million units, had his fans mesmerized as he performed the `Lonely.'
Regarded as one of the most versatile and successful singers of the 21st century, Akon, who is estimated to earn over USD 30 million a year from his songs, had the audience cheering and clapping as he belted out numbers like 'Beautiful', 'Right Now', 'Dangerous', 'Im So Paid', 'Angel’ and many more. Though the concert started much later than the scheduled time, it was totally worth the wait.
Akon is one helluva performer and came out in a Zorp Ball and set the stage on fire. After belting out some of his hits, he went shirtless and dived into the crowd. Akon was more on the crowd than on stage, and the audience went ballistic trying to get a grab at the R&B star. Akon first shot to prominence in 2004 after the release of "Locked Up" the first single from his debut album 'Trouble.'
Later, with his second album "Convicted", Akon earned a Grammy Award nomination for his song "Smack that". In 2005, Akon released a single entitled "Lonely". The song turned out to be a massive success as it figured among the top five songs on the Billboard Hot 100.
It also topped charts in Australia, the UK and Germany."Lonely" also became the longest running single to stay at the top of the Box' musical show chart with its domination spanning over fifteen weeks.
Akon holds the distinction for being the first solo artiste to be at both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice. He has been nominated for six Grammy Awards.
