Indians hold key positions world over
More and more Indians are getting recognition world over.Dr Neeraj Patil of Gulbarga District is elected as the mayor of the London borough of Lambeth.
This is probably the first time that a doctor of Indian origin is occupying this office. ”It's a great honor. I'm truly grateful to the councilors of Lambeth constituency. This is the most diverse borough,” said Patil.
Patil is now gearing up for the big job on hand: "The biggest challenge I face is to get the economy back in order. The figures of national debt are mind-numbing. It has to be brought back to normal by smart savings. Running a country or a borough is much like running a house. It's all about making efficiency savings before affecting front line services," he said.In 2006, Patil achieved the distinction of becoming a councillor of Lambeth council in London. And in 2008 he became the first Indian after Dadabhai Naoroji and a few prestigious others to contest for Parliamentary elections in Britain. Dr. Patil lives in London with his 5-year-old daughter Nikita and wife Anagha who is also a Doctor.
