PU colleges put up first list, even as CBSE students await results

Almost all the colleges of PU have come out with their first selection list for admission to Degree in Arts, Science and Commerce streams. And CBSE class X students are waiting anxiously for their results to be announced soon.

Pre-University Colleges in Bangalore have come out with first list even as CBSE class X students await their results. Almost all the colleges of PU have come out with their first selection list for admission to Degree in Arts, Science and Commerce streams.

The most sought after PU colleges in the City have their cut-off per cent at 88 to 90 for Science stream. For Commerce stream, the bar is a little lower at 80-85 per cent. As expected, cut-off percentage for Arts combination, offered by a handful of colleges, is expected to be the lowest at 70-75 per cent.

Being an exception to the trend of cut-off percentages, St Joseph’s PU College does not have a stipulated cut-off to stop students from applying. The college will be selecting the students based on their performance at the SSLC examinations in the descending order.

“Once we gather all the results, we list them in descending order of their marks and then allot seats according to merit. Thus, we only declare cut-offs after we release the first list of students,” said the Principal, Father Roshan Lobo.

While most students whose names are on the list are happy, the others are on tenterhooks, waiting for the second and thirds lists. The CBSE students, whose class X results are out only on May 28, are experiencing nail-biting suspense though most colleges have reserved a few seats for them.

Colleges in Bangalore maintain a five per cent reservation for CBSE and ICSE schools. “My results will be out only by Friday and the first list is already out. Very few good colleges in Bangalore reserve seats for CBSE students. And by the time, we get our marks sheet, all the seats will be taken,” Says Ashreya, a CBSE student.

Also, PU colleges in Bangalore will increase fee by 5 per cent from the coming academic session — 2010-11. The department of pre-university notified a hike in admission and examination fees for the I and II pre-university courses.

The last PU fee hike had been notified in 2005. The new fee hike notified will be applicable to all government and private PU colleges.
