Blossom Book House, is an ideal place
for those rainy afternoons where you can surround yourself in the comfort of books. Founded in 2001 by Mayi Gowda, it was a humble beginning at Brigade Gardens, with a shop measuring at around 100Sq ft. Through the goodwill of its loyal customers, the business has grown over the years and it is one of the main landmarks for the book lovers in the city.

It houses the most wonderfully eclectic books - new and second hand – anything you’d ever want!  Blossom Book House is currently spread over 4000Sq ft, across three expansive floors on Church Street and stocks everything from children’s books to rare classics to bestsellers, and a range of magazines and comics.

The entire collection of books is splendidly arrayed, alphabetical order-de-rigueur and the discounts they offer range from 10 to 90 percent. It is often hard to resist the temptation of buying more books than one could possibly read as the books are very reasonably priced. The bookstore has the quiet appeal of a library and enchants you with an array of books on display. There is no need to rush, you can quietly seat yourself and indulge in the treasure trove of volumes representing every desired specialty, each section clearly labeled.

Also the staff can pinpoint the book you are after and ordering books they don't have in stock is a breeze, and they normally arrive in either a day or two. It’s the only bookstore in Bangalore where you can buy and sell old books and every book that is bought at Blossom Book House has a story to tell, as it speaks about the history of ownership and has a character of its own.

"I started Blossom Book House in the year 2001 and it was a small initiative back then. I had a huge collection of old books and sold them off the streets.  I wanted to open a place where people can exchange old books for new and that’s when I rented a small place at Brigade Gardens. Initially we had just about 1500 books but today we have over two lakh titles at the bookstore,” says Mayi Gowda, who hails from an agricultural family in Mysore.

Mayi Gowda who is an Electrical Engineer, from UVCE manages the business all by himself and plans to open an online bookstore soon. "The rent in those days wasn’t very high, I paid a mere 4,000 rupees but the main problem was sourcing of the books. We had to regularly add new titles to the collection and we didn’t know where to source the books from.  But today we have a huge network of suppliers from across the country and we update our stock every single day.” he adds.

What makes Blossoms special is the warm and lively personality of the owner who is a genuine book enthusiast. Every customer receives a warm welcome on entering the shop. Also the staff is good at finding just the title to suit every customer's requirements. With a large second-hand section, a huge collection of new titles and a childrens section, Blossoms bookshop is a great way to spend the weekend!
