To mark the World Environment Day,
Wipro has initiated a number of activities to create awareness and make an impact about matters pertaining to environment. The activities which kicked off on June 1 will be conducted across all the Wipro campuses in India and will culminate on June 5.

The activities include series of guest lectures, an environment awareness campaign in conjunction with Greenpeace, a cycle-to-work campaign and an initiative to conduct free vehicle emission checks for its employees.

The initiative attempts to engage with increasing levels of intensity with all stakeholders – Wipro’s own employees, partners, suppliers, customers and immediate communities.
The initiative has 4,000 employees across 10 chapters as volunteers across Wipro’s locations in India and other parts of the World.

Commenting on the World Environment Day activities, Ram Ramakrishnan -
Vice President, Facilities Management Group, Wipro said, “Observances such as World Environment Day act as catalysts to generate the much needed interest and action on issues pertain to the environment. It gives us, both as an organization and as individuals, an opportunity to make a difference. It is very heartening to see Wiproites contribute towards this cause.”

Cycle to Work Campaign: Freewheelers, the bicycle riding club at Wipro has been involved in the cause of promoting the concept of ‘cycle to work’. Close to 50 Wiproites would be cycling from Madivala to the Electronics City campus to spread the word about the benefits of cycling and to bust the myths pertaining to it.

Free Emission Tests: To promote environmentally responsible driving, Wipro in association with Ford India would be facilitating free vehicle emission checks at its campuses across India. These tests are conducted for the third successive year. In 2009 close to 900 Wiproites in Bangalore made use of this service.
