Celebrate World Music Day in Bangalore at 'Handshake Concert'

From Swarathma to Soulmate, you can find your quantum of solace on the World Music Day which is celebrated on June 21.



The World Music Day is just round the corner
and on this occasion Mindlogicx presents the fourth edition of the highly successful ‘Handshake Concert’.  Introducing the concept of ‘one handshake at a time’.  It is a non-profit concert mainly aimed at promoting music, culture and goodwill among all citizens of the country. Being presented by Mindlogicx it is organized by Rattle and Hum Music Society in collaboration with Nagaland University, North east Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) and Tourism Nagaland, this is the fourth edition of the concert and it is thefirst time that the concert will be held in Bangalore. Rattle and Hum Music Society Nagaland - seeks to educate artists from the fields of art, music, dance, theatre and literature of their role in the formation of Culture/ Counter-Culture.

The event has always given priority to Naga musicians who have used this platform to exposes local talents to a national audience and also create a window for the rest of the country to discover and experience the rich culture and music of the people of Nagaland. It will also bring together musicians from other parts of the country with an aim to bridge gap through music. The concert celebrating World Music Day will feature artists like Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy Award winner), Soulmate (Shillong), Melodrama (Winner NSACS Rock Reach 2010), Divine Connection (Winner MTV Desi Beats 2011), Anuradha Pal (Rhythm Queen from Mumbai), Sathya (Chennai), Swarathma (Bangalore), Kenei Chale (NSACS Rock Reach Ambassador), folk artistes Khrukusolu and Vetolu Lohe.

Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Grammy Award Winner
Creator of the Mohan Veena and the winner of the Grammy award, Vishwa Mohan has mesmerized the world with his pristine pure, delicate yet fiery music. It is due to Vishwa's maiden mega effort that he rechristened guitar as Mohan Veena, his genius creation and has established it at the top most level in the mainstream of Indian Classical Music scenario, thereby proving the essence of his name Vishwa (meaning the world) and Mohan (meaning charmer) and indeed , a world charmer he is.

Vishwa Mohan has performed extensively in the USA, USSR, Canada, the Great Britain, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Scotland, Switzerland, Denmark, then scaling the Gulf of Dubai, Al-Sharjah, Bahrain, Muscat, Abu Dhabi etc. and throughout India.

Soulmate
Soulmate Inspired by the roots and groove sounds of the Blues, Blues-rock, Soul, Rock ‘n Roll, Funk and R&B, Soulmate came together in Shillong. In February 2003, they played their first concert at the ‘Roots Festival at the Water Sports Complex in Umiam. Since then the band has performed in many concerts all over The Northeast as well as in different parts of India.

They have also performed at the International Jazzmandu Festival in Kathmandu for two consecutive years. Soulmate has performed over 500 concerts all over the country and abroad. When on the road, they avail of the services of session musicians like Sam Shullai,Ferdy Dkhar,Momo,Ambar Das, Shawn Nongrum,Shaun Nonghulo,Adhiraj Mustafi,Claude Abranches and Leon Wallang.  

Anuradha Pal

Mumbai (India) based Star Tabla virtuoso and Percussionist Anuradha Pal is an internationally highly acclaimed popular Tabla soloist and versatile accompanist with top Indian classical, African, Jazz and World musicians. Anuradha composed the background score in ‘Gaja Gamini’ the acclaimed M.F Husain film, which won tremendous acclaim in the Cannes Film Festival. She regularly scores music for music albums, theatre & documentaries.

Swarathama
The Bangalore based band needs no introduction. They released their debut album on Virgin Records on 5 January 2009, supporting it with a nationwide tour. They were featured on the Soundpad compilation of indie-Indian music that released in May 2009, in support of which they toured the UK along with three other Indian bands.

Swarathma released 2 albums on EMI in 2009, and have worked with the legendary John Leckie (Raidohead, Muse). They were named Indie of the Year 2009 by Indiecision Magazine. They swept the Jack Daniels Indian Rock Awards 2009 winning Band of the Year (Critics and Popular Choice), Song of the Year and Album of the Year (Popular choice). The band is known for a visually electric stage act featuring faux-folk-horses, Bihari accents, and a Nehru Topis at various times. This act has won over audiences in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore

Lohe Sisters

The Lohe sisters are among the most versatile and mature performers of Naga Folk songs, their rich vocal vibratos and traditional harmonies make them unique and make them stand, a class apart from the other folk singers of the region.

K Sathyanarayanan - Chennai
Featured in the Limca Book of Records 2003 as the youngest Indian to pass the 4th grade Keyboard Examination under Trinity College, London at the age of 6, she is one of the youngest to have passed Grade 8 examination on Electronic Keyboard at the age of 10 in Dec 2005.

Ms. Kenei Chale
She is one of the finalist of Naga Idol 2009, and brand ambassador of NACO SuperSar Campaign Nagaland

The concert will be held in Bangalore on June 21 at Chowdiah Memorial Hall from 6:00 pm onwards. The concert is open to one and all.

Nice to see my name in this report. However please note my gender has been mentioned as SHE instead of "He". Pls correct same and oblige. Looking forward to presenting good music and get the blessings of esteemed artists and learned audience.
