“Bombay Bazaarr” on CMH Road
It is on CMH Road, right opposite ICICI bank. Shaan shuttles between Bombay and Bangalore to sell her handmade bag s. It was during these trips, she says , that she realized that there was nothing here like the designs in Mumbai. “ Every time I would be here with an exhibition and sales with clothes and accessories from designers in Bombay, people would tell me that they have never seen anything like what I offer” says Shaan, who has now started the Bombay Bazaarr.
“ Its just out of passion that I have started this store”, she says. The place is homely, with no frills, and offers a range of handmade products. “ Everything you see here is made by women at hom in Mumbai. You will not get these designs here and for the price we offer. Our products start at Rs.500 and are below Rs. 5000” she adds.
There is the jewellery most sought after by youngsters today. The designs are funky and a wee bit unconventional. In fact, the store is ta rgeted at young girls. A huge glass smiles on a golden bead chain or the very unconventionally cut large neckpiece that can be worn both ways catch the eye. “ The jewellery is designed by Sangeeta Khanna. And she is doing very well in Mumbai. And most of the young girls here have liked her designs” observes Shaan.
Then there are clothes by Manizeh. She has designed daily wear kurtis and shirts for young girls. Like the jewellery, they come in bright and vibrant shades and very trendy cuts and designs. These can be worn with jeans, capris or even churidars.
There is also a range of home accessories, all handmade. There are coasters, candle stands, bowls, platters, table mats and frames. These come with heavy ornamentation, in that , there is a lot of traditional bead and intricate e handwork that has gone into it. This section starts at Rs.300.
“Everything here is user friendly. They ocan be washed, you can place hot plates on them, you can use them as you want to. They will add all the glamour to your home” says Shaan.
Besides her bags, which come in plain, to trendy and ethnic designs, Shaan’s contribution to the store is cushion covers. Her bags start at Rs.300. And the cusion covers, with heavy stone work from her aptly named “ Maharaja Collection”, are made completely in raw silk and cotton. They re very ethnic in their look, feel and design and remind you of a bygone era.
The last section in the store is the footwear by Stoffa for women and children. Even here you will see a lot of stone and bead work or bows etc. “ We have some stylish designs for children too, which is very rare in the market “ observes Shaan.
Bombay Bazaarr is open from 10.30 AM to 7 PM and can be contacted on 080 4148 1832.
