Giving birth to an exhalation of creativity – Fashion design extraordinaire Puja Arya presents 'City City Bling Bling'

The design dream of Puja Arya began
with her study at NIFT for two years, well complemented with a scholarship by the Nottingham Trent University and the Charles Wallace Trust Fund. Puja’s collection at NTU was selected for a grand showing at the 'Graduate Fashion Week’ in London along with the best design collections from all over the United Kingdom. Puja also showcased to the world her collections through the highly esteemed Japanese Fashion channel – Tokyo Fashion Express (NHK).

This innovative collection comprises of silhouettes from the 50- 70’s and includes flared pants, dresses, jackets and saris. The designer takes the traditional craft of hand block printing to create artistic geometric prints with stripes, tiny checks, double-decker bus motifs and lopsided dots.

"The palette moves from black and white, to brilliant turquoises, browns, dull yellow, burgundy and deep reds. The ensuing collection is crafted in satin, silk chanderi, chiffon and silks. A keen attention to detailing and surface treatment has been paid with the use of sequin and gota embroidery," says designer Puja.

Describing the “City City Bling Bling” collection she  says, “The collection is inspired by the passionate young woman in a city who is chic, sprightly and impish. A mystical woman who personifies the traits of nostalgia and modernity, someone who is whimsical and yet committed.”

Her collection will be showcased at Collage which offers styles and silhouettes ranging from the familiar to the not so familiar brands across India. Borrowing from the crafts of the centuries, reviving dying techniques, creating sensuous fabrics have all been made possible under the banner of “wearable art”. Collage results in a fusion of colours, a medley of designs, inspired imagination, couture and prêt.
The outfits are priced at Rs 6000 and above.
