‘Classics to Broadway’, William Joseph Music Academy

This weekend catch the musical extravaganza ‘Classics to Broadway’  at St John’s Auditorium.

It has been sometime since Bangalore city witnesses a western musical concert of this kind. ‘Classics to Broadway’ a musical extravaganza organised by the William Joseph Music Academy promises to revive some old tunes on Sunday 2nd August at St John’s Auditorium.

The event is to commemorate the 75th birth anniversary of late J.T. William Joseph who was a pioneer of western classical and show biz music in the city. Conceptualized by his son Dr Ashley Williams who is the director of the music academy, this tribute family concert is about celebrating the life and the music of the late maestro. “Dad was one of the first people who was involved in western music in the city. He taught music for 35 years in Baldwin’s Boys High School and this is to pay tribute to him.” Ashley Williams was only able to give life to father’s dream of opening a music school, unfortunately after he passed away. The music academy which opened in 2003 has people from all walks of life pursuing one passion –  music.

According to Dr Ashley who also earlier taught at Sophia Girls High School,  the concert brings together a group of musicians, students and young professionals who have taken time off their busy schedule and be a part of this tribute. “It’s a nice gesture as some of my former students are getting on stage after almost 12 years. It’s a nostalgic feeling when these students are coming together in this musical which is a tribute to another teacher.” Scheduled to perform are the Baldwin’s boys and girls choir along with the Frank Anthony Public School band. The evening’s concert is Directed and Conducted by Dr. Ashley Williams who will be leading 28 of his former students along with a 15 piece brass band, which promises to be the evenings highlight.

The evening will also see music from London’s West End, New York’s Broadway, shows and musicals such as Oliver Twist, Sound of Music, Fiddler on the Roof, Les Miserable, Anne and much more brought to life. There also will be orchestra and classical music from the great masters, Mozart, Beethoven Chopin.
