In Pictures: Roundup of Bangalore Fashion Week
Popular designers, Bollywood stars, beautiful women, and a fashion crazy Bangalore crowd was all for the asking in the four day Bangalore Fashion Week that drew to a close over the weekend.
After a successful BPBFW ‘summer/shower’ in February earlier this year, Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week returned to showcase the Winter & Festive collection at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Electronic city. To celebrate the various hues of India, the show opened with designer Shekha Khandari’s collection inspired from art forms in nature by Ernst Haeckel. Boxfish structure was the main inspiration in this collection and the colours used were dyed in hues of blues with black, green and coordinated with orange and pink. Sanjay and Shammy’s Maa’ternity collection was something that you’d rarely see on a fashion week platform. They presented a collection dedicated completely to pregnant women comprising work wear, leisure wear and party wear in fabrics which fall beautifully on the body.
Riyaz Gangji’s collection was all about bright colours. The fabrics and garments were light, airy and embellished lightly with embroidery. The lehengas and saris were in bright full toned colours inspired by Indian festivals. Bright pinks, fluorescent blues, sumptuous reds and maroons and deep blues and purples lit up the ramp. Pria Kataaria Puri’s used two colour story in her collection – one was vibrant inspired by spices and fruits in souks of Marrakech such as spicy greens, oranges, tangerines, turmeric yellows, apple greens and the other was a vintage tone consisting of teal greens, midnight blues, blacks, off-whites and golden sand.
Embellishments in the form of tassels, gilded sequined crystal mirrored borders created a luxurious and glamorous look. She presented a wide variety of indo-western styles perfect for any occasion while being travel friendly, the collection had maxis, lounge gowns, kaftans, tunics, jackets, gypsy saris and dresses for glamour dressing without a fuss.
Shruti Shah’s Indian seductress collection was inspired from the truly beautiful Indian women. The seductiveness of the drapes of a saree was transcended into garments made for the women of today. The deep reds, bright golds and earthy browns all come together in a joyous manifestation of the spirit of the celebration season. The collection looked gloriously feminine, effeminately graceful and curiously soft in its exclusively framed range of elite fabrics.
Jatinn Kochhar’s Crossing The Line was a retrospective collection of all the collections that Jatinn has done inspired by black and white in his entire career of 20 years. He presented some of his favourite and highly appreciated designs. The collection is largely timeless and season-less with silhouettes ranging from kaftans, kimonos, jumpsuits, bandage dresses to elegant yet edgy evening wear. In short something for everyone, keeping in mind all body types.
This time around Ramesh Dembla’s collection Aratrika 'A Speck Of Light In Darkness’ had a lot of layering and embellishments. It is an exquisite collection that has sarees, gowns and ghagras, each will have a regal touch with gold, silver and copper embellishments. A spectacular show of opulence and drama is what one can expect from his collection. This season Rocky S surprised and shocked the ramp with his prodigious and astonishing fashion statement through his artistic, lavish and delicately crafted collection of lehengas, graceful and exquisite saris, modish and enchanting chudidar kurtas. Well cut, stylish blazers and ethnic brocade well cut, stylish blazers and ethnic brocade Sherwanis for men were also a part of this extravagant collection.
Each ensemble specially handcrafted with dash of pearl, sequin work and crystals adding a touch of exclusivity and richness to every bit of the garment. Silhouettes being well constructed bodice turning into rivers of chiffon, satin, georgette and sequined gold base net compliments the collection. The bright Indian colours along with the classic white and gold completes the collection with something for everybody in the family for any occasion.
