MG Rd boulevard to get a new life
The good old days of strolling down the boulevard of MG Road will soon turn into reality.
MG Road’s famous boulevard that had made its way for the piers to support the overhead tracks of the Bangalore Metro will be back very soon. Apparently, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has joined hands with Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Finance Corporation and the Karnataka Land Army Corporation to build a new promenade at a total cost of Rs 5 crore.
The footpath once completed will have flowering trees, open seats, a small amphitheatre and two-tier walk-way. Meanwhile, both BBMP and the horticulture department have expressed their desire to be a part of this master plan. They will plant jacarandas, gulmohars and bougainvilleas along the wall of Caripapa Park and create fountain springs to bring life and movement to the boulevard.
According to sources, the new-look promenade would also include extensive landscape and gardens, reminiscent of the Hyde Park in England that has the London underground metro stations located near its edges.
