Sunday Soul Sante will be the perfect setting for you to kick back and relax with music, fashion and food This Sunday, September 26, Asha Rao will be hosting a fun-filled carnival/flea market
that will warrant your passing on the extra sleep or cleaning up the wardrobe for some Art, Culture, Fashion and Fun with Sunday Soul Sante
. A carnival being held at the Palace Grounds, Triupura Vasini entrance 2 on Sunday 26th September from 2p.m onwards.
This has been put together for the first time, to bring together the creative culture of Bengaluru at one venue. This event is essentially a Sunday carnival curated by a group of likeminded enthusiasts to showcase the best that Bengaluru has to offer.
The day long carnival will have fashion designers like Manoviraj Khosala, Sanchita Ajjampur & Raj Shroff. This will link up with Prasad Bidapa’s initiative called “Labels for Less” where designers will be sending in their racks at slashed prices in keeping with the spirit of the carnival. There will also be music & fashion show choreographed by Prasad Bidapa.
There will be local food brands like Sukh Sagar, Queens & High Note. Multinational brands like Costa Coffee
, Kingfisher & Arugum Bay will also be participating.
is being steered into action by Asha Rao, Bangalore’s favourite name in entertainment and wholesome, fun camaraderie. Asha Rao brings her warmth and attention to detail to this carnival. She aims at making this event a regular feature, but hopes this time to draw the select Bangalore crowd who know how to enjoy themselves, but also know how to kick back and relax. “I hope for there to be an atmosphere for a colourful and happy crowd. There will arts and crafts, dancers, musicians and a whole lot else going on at the venue.”
This will not be your regular run of the mill handlooms exhibitions, but something with a little more pizzazz. There will be a Kingfisher sponsored Beer Bar, some live bands with jams going on at the venue. There will be artists from Calcutta will also be at the Sunday Soul Sante.
As far as arts and crafts goes, Asha is clear that she has invited people who are doing something that is artistic, creative and at the same time unusual from what is generally available. Atul Johari will be presenting his Turned wood products that have taken the Channapatna toys
to a whole different league. As long as it is something special, as long as the quality is excellent. The craft is of the studio level. Seher from Psybaba
will have a stall, as will Anikta from Chilli Billi
and Manjunath from Frusion. There will be photography with Pradeep Menon; as well young artists displaying their Tanjore painting and funky Digital Prints on not just canvas but on shoes and bags too! The pictures and paintings will be available framed and unframed, allowing you do get what you want. The cartoonist Balraj will also have a line of tee shirts at the carnival.
Stalls with eclectic fashion, jewellery and kitchy handicrafts at Sunday Soul Sante
In addition there will be the Dhiren Das who will be presenting Oriya art who is from Orissa overseas. Ishrath Chowdhury and Mrinalini Cariappa will be displaying jewellery and clothes. There will be other young people who have a line of funky clothes and accessories. There will also be a stall there with unusual ideas for corporate gifting.
According to Asha, “the idea is to have India be portrayed as a a trend starter, and what it has in terms of thigns that are classic and fashion forward. We are inviting people to come spend the day, here, enjoy the music, have a beer and throw their hair back with their friends right until the police plays spoilsport and asks us to shut shop. I am keeping the market open from 2pm to 7pm so that the retail can thrive. Its all very fun, relaxed and low key.”
Asha Rao has been known to set up the high end Handicrafts store Kahawa as well as Studio sattva. That has markets twice a year a summer and Christmas baszaar. “I am the kind of person who likes to give away everything free. Because what really excites me is creating platforms so that I can show a discerning crowd of Bangalore, artists, craftsman, designers, and anything creative and off the wall that people are creating.
