The Great Indian October Fest kicks off today
Kingfisher Premium The Great Indian October Fest (KP TGIOF) is all set to kick off today with an eclectic mix of bands from India and abroad performing on the first day of this three-day musical festival.
The three day fest promises electrifying musical performances, unlimited beer, finger-licking food, eclectic shopping, a display of gorgeous antique cars and an arena of competitive gaming that are bound to bring the crowds to a fever pitch of excitement, and many, many more of joyous moments. Whilst today, the crowd will witness the first of the two international bands, Bedouin Sound clash, performing, there are also the other Indian bands and artists like Medusa, The Other People, Mohit Chauhan and others, who will enthral the audience at Palace Ground.
The three day musical extravaganza will get a bunch of other bands from across the country that will be playing various genres of music. The last day, October 24, however, seems to be one of the special days for music aficionados who have been looking forward to this show, for that’s when the Italian band Lacuna Coil will take centre stage do its first-ever-performance in the Indian soil. Needless to say, they are equally excited to perform in the Indian soil, as excited as the music enthusiasts are from the city.
“We have heard a lot about the country, but don’t really know what the music scenario out there is. We hope to have a great show,” said vocalist Andrea Ferro. Speaking to ‘mybangalore.com’, Cristina Scabbia, the female vocalist in this Italian gothic metal band said, “We have been performing all across the globe, but most of our concerts have been in Europe, US and UK. So, this is a great opportunity to see and witness something different. Yes, I have heard some of the bands from US and the UK to have played there. Good pals, the Lamb of God must have been there recently. We really look forward to this gig.”
KP TGIOF is poised to grow larger this year with one lakh footfalls expected across its three-day course starting today in the city. Last year this annual event attracted 50,000 people. Organizers say it takes nothing less than a herculean task to manage a festival as big as this. “There is a lot of work that goes behind something like this. For a smooth flow, everything has to be prepared much prior to the event. We have many acclaimed bands and artists sharing the same stage at KP TGIOF,” said Samar S Sheikhawat, Senior Vice President, Marketing, U.B. Ltd.
For music lovers, it’s just another reason to get their heads down, lay back, relax, and listen to some great music, for lyrically and musically, there is some sumptuous music that awaits you. I think we are lucky to have such kind of a musical festival in the city. Today, it’s not only some body from Bangalore who looks forward to this, but even guys from other cities come down to witness KP TGIOF”. “I have a lot of my friends who have come down from Delhi to see some of the bands performing this time,” said Karthik, who promises to see all the three days
The concept of Kingfisher Premium The Great Indian October Fest stemmed from a need to spread music amongst the growing youth. It was only after an extended period of planning that the first Kingfisher October Fest was held from November 11-13, 2005, at the Palace Grounds, Bangalore. The property is a joint venture of Kingfisher and Common Colors Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. “We wanted to make this as one of the biggest musical fiestas in the country. Today, it’s not only a Bangalorean who looks forward to it, but even people from other cities keep a note of this event. We are happy that Bangalore has been able to create an event of such a high value,” said Vilas Hiregoudar, Managing Director, Common Colors.
The highlight of the entire carnival is the free flow of the freshest draught beer directly from the brewery to the stalls. This is an exceptional experience that has induced a level of elation among hundreds of people in the past. In addition to all that music and beer, at the KF TGIOF you can indulge in a variety of activities, a flea market where you will be introduced to 5,000 sq ft of delightful shopping with an assortment of unique jewelry, accessories, clothes, antiques, souvenirs of TGIOF etc.
