Vikram Phadnis at Fuel, Hatworks Boulevard
Vikram Phadnis is now available in Bangalore at the Fuel store in Hatworks Boulevard.
It’s wedding season in the country when the soon-to-be married couples get all the reason to go shopping, for a most of them will be busy preparing to tie the knot. And the designers just help them to make their life simpler, because it’s that time of the year when one sees a lot of the wedding collection launching all across the country.
November 18 saw something similar. Fuel, the Fashion Store in Bangalore, unveiled the Fall Winter and the Lakme Fashion Week, ‘09, collection by designer Vikram Phadnis. The designer, who is better known as the Bollywood designer of the country, wasn’t available for a talk, but Falguni Jhaveri, the proprietor was the perfect host to speak more on the collection. “I think this was the perfect season to bring these designs in the city. It’s the bridal season, so, we thought we should get them here, in Bangalore, when people can make the most of it,” said Falguni.
On what seemed to be a sequel of its previous collection, the new one definitely outwits its previous collection that was launched at the store five months ago. “This is more vibrant, and the designer has worked a lot on the embroidery part. It has a lot intricate detail in it which simply stands out. The previous line that was launched in July was more simple and subtle. This, you may say, is more colourful, something that will be a perfect bridal wear for this season,” said Falguni showing one of designs by Vikram.
First launched in Mumbai, the collection was soon brought to the Garden City of the Country with a hope that it would be much liked by the Fashionistas in the city. Falguni corroborates: “It’s still a fresh design, something that’s just been taken off the ramps. It has done exceptionally well in our Mumbai and Pune store. This is the third city that we have brought the design in, and we are hopeful that it will be much liked by the people here as well.”
The designs have a bit of influence of the Mughal Emperor, but the designer has been successfully able to retain its originality. “There is clearly a take of the Mughal Emperor in Vikram’s design, but that’s not the whole of it. It’s just a royal look, you know, but there are all the modern cuts, something that caters to the people today. Something that is very afresh,” said Falguni.
Fashion, which Falguni thinks is a cycle in itself, comes back often, but every time it comes, it brings a new flavour to it, which makes it special. “Fashion is a cycle and it gets repeated. It’s the same with this one too. It has got that ancient Mughal look, you know. But if you peep into the designs properly, you will see that there is just no kind of similarity, just that, it retains the royal theme,” said Falguni.
With the increasing number of fashion shows that’s now been held very often in the city, the proprietor feels that bringing new designs is the city has actually been a worthwhile initiative.
“People are now much aware about fashion. They are educated and very knowledgeable about designs and the latest in Fashion. So, it has helped us to get more of new designs in the city. Today, there is not a lot of difference in the style statement of somebody from a place like Mumbai and a city like Bangalore. Thanks to the growing number of fashion shows that people now understand the kind of fashion that’s in vogue,” said Falguni.
Speaking about the upcoming Bangalore International Fashion Week, Falguni says, “It was very important for Bangalore to have their own fashion week. And now, when it has got one of its own, I think it’s just doing great, and for sure, it will get bigger. It actually serves a great place for designers to showcase their collection, in turn making the people more aware on fashion. It’s, I think, a two way process. That’s precisely today there are fashion weeks in almost all the major cities in the country, including tier two and tier three cities. Take for instance Kolkata and Ahmedabad. I they are just doing great.”
Fuel is an upmarket fashion and lifestyle store. It houses pret, diffusion, home accessories, fashion jewellery, hand bags, sarees and designer menswear spread over 5000 sq. ft. The store is presently functioning in four cities: Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bangalore.
