According to experts, one of the most effective ways to combat diabetes is by indulging in some form of simple physical activity such as walking for at least 30 minutes every day. Medical studies have proven that a 30-minute walk results in better blood glucose level management. When we walk our muscles absorb blood sugar, preventing it from building in the bloodstream. The result is lower glucose levels. However, it’s not permanent, as blood glucose levels go up again when we have our meals. Hence, it’s important to control the glucose level by walking.
“It is amazing how simple habits like these can contribute in safeguarding one from a life-threatening condition, such as diabetes. Therefore, having balanced meals and walking should be inculcated in one’s lifestyle from early adulthood,” said Kabir Lumba, managing director, Lifestyle International Pvt. The walkathon will start from Kanteerva Stadium and take participants through Cubbon Park. There will also be a live performance by popular contemporary folk band Swarathma. This CSR initiative by Dubai-based retail company Landmark Group, will be conducted in November across six countries, including Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Dubai and India.
