Foreigners Regional Registration Office shifts to Indiranagar
The new Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), under the Bureau of Immigration,will start its operation on Monday. The FRRO office is located at Indiranagar and now it will also process applications for PIO, OCI cards.
Foreign nationals who dread going to Foreigner Regional Registration Office can now heave a sigh of relief. FRRO, which was situated in the Police Commissioner's office on Infantry Road (Bhagwan Mahaveer Road) here, has now been shifted to a spacious new building off Double Road in Indiranagar. The office of the FRRO will commence its operations from the new building on Monday.
All foreigners visiting Bangalore, who need immigration services such as Registration, Extension of Visa, Exit Permit, Stay Visa, Return Visa should visit the new office. The new office will also receive and process applications for the issuance of PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) / OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) Cards, the police commissioner's office said in a release here on Sunday. Foreigners can get further details about the routes and how to reach the new office from the Foreigners Section of the Bangalore City Police website, www.bcp.gov.in.
The office will function from Monday to Friday between 9.30 a.m. and 6 p.m. However, fresh applications are received only up to 1.30 p.m., the release said.
Most of the papers are processed and orders are issued to the foreigners the same day. Efforts are being made to complete the fresh registration cases within one hour of submission, the release said. According to the release, the new office has an air-conditioned Immigration Services Hall, good seating arrangements and other amenities. The Immigration Services Hall has five counters to receive and issue papers to foreigners and another dedicated counter for PIO/ OCI card applicants.
The office was functioning under the Bangalore Police Department from its “Foreigners Registration Section” on the premises of the Commissioner of Police office on Infantry Road. However, the Immigration and Registration functions were taken over by the Bureau of Immigration of the Union Government from the State Government in January 2010. Even after this, the FRRO continued to function on Infantry Road. The new office is located at No. 55 off Double Road, Indiranagar. It is about a kilometre from Old Madras Road and 500 metres from the Double Road-CMH Road Junction.
