Strawberry Fields, the annual music
festival of the National Law School, is back. The present edition promises to be bigger and better than ever before. The music fest is synonymous with the music scene in India. Presently, in its 14th edition, it has become an undisputable altar where those who appreciate good music congregate to witness, and worship, the arrival of new and upcoming bands from across the country and beyond. It is here, that the bands from all over the country battle it out over the course of three days to take home the highest honour in a show that is critically acclaimed as India’s best platform for amateur and semi-professional bands before huge crowds of up to 10,000 people, on the most cutting edge equipment available in the market today. The present edition of the festival is scheduled to be held on the 12th, 13th and the 14th of November 2010.

Rated as ‘India’s best college rock festival’ by the Rock Street Journal, Strawberry Fields was initiated to patronize original and talented bands in India. Set amidst Bangalore’s otherwise quiet suburb of Nagarbhavi, the festival brings together over fifty bands from across the country and gives them the chance to feel the experience of playing on stage with a brilliant sound set up to Bangalore’s receptive and eager audience, whose continual support has made the show what it is today- an institution which consistently launches new bands every year. The concept of Strawberry Fields was thus born with the sole purpose of giving bands the chance to strut their own stuff to an audience that was not averse to it.

In the midst of all this, new talent is discovered, the show has served as a launch pad for some of India’s finest rock bands, including Thermal and a Quarter, Motherjane, Junkyard Groove, Bhayanak Maut, Rainbow Bridge, Kryptos, Slain, Myndsnare, Pin Drop Violence, Demonic Resurrection, Brute Force, Angeldust, Zebediah Plush and Galeej Gurus to name a few.

The festival itself is spread across three days, with around fifty bands competing in the preliminary rounds for two days, each band getting twenty minutes to perform their act. After which, five of the best bands are shortlisted to compete in the finals. Every year, there is also a headlining performance as well as a special act on the day of the finals. At the end of the day, it is a show which promises good original music, and it never fails to deliver. From harmonicas with double bass grooves, to the traditional five minute guitar solos, from death, to metal, to rock, to funk to the blues, you will find it all at Strawberry Fields!
