Diabetes, which is one of the major
health concerns in the world today, is spreading rapidly. Diabetes can be majorly categorized into two types: Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. While the former is relatively uncommon in India, the latter is spreading fast amongst Indians. And considering the pace the disease is spreading in the country, it gives an indicator that the coming years may not be very pleasant for many.

Seeing the urgency of the situation many hospitals in the city are organizing different events and campaigns to create awareness amongst people. PeopleHealth is a consumer oriented health services organization that seamlessly binds all aspects of healthcare.  Their aim is to provide members with health promoting wellness plans, access to preferred centers with assured quality of service, and a wealth of health resources enabling members to take charge of their own health. They are conducting The Great Bengaluru Health Challenge on Brigade Road on December 18 from 11 am.

The programme, conducted with the Brigade's Shops and Establishments' Association (BSEA), aims at creating public awareness about high blood sugar level and its risks. Ten teams from PeopleHealth will ask shoppers and commuters to guess their blood sugar levels and will immediately follow it up with a test. If the levels match or are in the range of +/- 3, the individual will be awarded with a pre-loaded health cash card by PeopleHealth, which can be used to procure medical services across the PeopleHealth network, comprising 150 healthcare providers (doctors, clinics, hospitals, diagnostic centers, and pharmacies).

G. Krishnamurthy, CEO and founder of the organization, said the initiative was aimed at educating people to keep a tab on their sugar levels and be health conscious. “With changing lifestyles due to work and family pressures, individuals are paying lesser attention to their health. One of the basic indicators of this is the rise in number of youngsters with blood-sugar related problems,” he added.
