Photographer Shadi Ghadirian through her work portrays all aspects of Iranian women and the social issues they face.

‘Photography is the fastest art. You push a button and you get a result. It reflects my personality.’ says Shadi Ghadrian whose works are currently on display in the city at Tasveer.
Shadi is one of Iran's leading contemporary photographers. Born in Tehran in 1974, Her work has been exhibited and collected in museums and galleries across Europe, and the U.S.A. Her work is in the collection of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. She came to the limelight in the late 90s with her Qajar series, in which she examines the paradoxical position of women in Iran.
Shadi decided to become a photographer as there was little option left after completing her studies. Her first two series titled ‘Qajar’ and ‘Like Every Day’ have women as the central subject; ‘However, since then, every time I think about a new series, in a way it is related to women.’ adds Shadi referring to her latter work that also has women as the central subject.
Currently, Shadi works at the Museum of Photography in Tehran. Her work is intimately linked to her identity as a Muslim woman living in Iran. Nonetheless, her art also deals with issues relevant to women living in other parts of the world.
