Fireflies Festival 2009

A music festival to be held soon in Bangalore promises great music with equally enchanting ambience to go along with it.

From 6.30 pm on the 21st of February till 7 am on the 22nd of February, Bangaloreans can have a field time with music of all genres. The Fireflies Music Festival 2009 will be held at the Fireflies Ashram off Kanakapura and will feature as many as 11 performers.

Having started in 2006, the Fireflies Festival has gone on to become one of the biggest festivals celebrating music in the city. The highlight of the event year is the fact that it always runs on a theme. The first year focused on peace in Iraq, the second delved into the issue of water conservation, the third was all about conservation of trees and the fourth about the ‘Inner Journey- Outer Journey’. During its fifth run last year, the organizers focused on the plight of Adivasis or tribals. “This year we plan to delve deeper into the theme of climate change. And Fireflies 2010 will have human trafficking as the central theme”, says Eugene Lawrence, festival coordinator.

Like always, Fireflies Festival, this year, too will be a platform of popular musical genres ranging from rock and jazz to Qawali, folk rock and soul fusion. Performing bands include Swarathma in the folk rock segment, Moon Arra in the jazz segment, Bhumi Thayi Balaga in the folk segment, Shahid Parvez in the Qawalli segment and others.

The stage for the festival is set under a banyan tree in an open amphitheatre and this year round the festival organisers are expecting 1500 people to turn up at the event.

Donor passes for the event will be available for Rs 300 at the venue and also Casa Picola Outlets and K.C. Das on St Mark’s Road.
