Healing through technique
Meet Avinash Subramanyam. He is 45 years old and is the first Indian to have known the superior physical techniques of Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong and Lian Gong Shi Ba Fa. “I was in school and had this friend called Saifi who happened to be a judo expert. On a certain day he tried the art on me and I found myself reeling across the room. I was badly hurt but mightily impressed too. That very day I decided to hone my skills in various physical techniques”, recalls Avinash, as he gives instructions to his students. And it’s quite evident that there has been no looking back for him.
Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong or the way to pull in to feed is a complete health system that people can incorporate in their daily lives, thus taking care of major health issues relating to the heart, lungs, liver and other vital parts of the body. “The founder of this technique, the legendary Zhang Guangde of the Beijing Sports University, suffered from several diseases himself. As cancer was overtaking his existence and medicines were playing havoc with his system, he decided to concentrate on the art of Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong. Now more than thirty years later, he’s an absolutely fit octogenarian”, claims Avinash. According to him, Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong focuses on internal organs as well as meridians, all the while being a complete sport training program. Dao Yin methods also actively address stress and relaxation issues and are practiced by more than 15 million people in more than 30 countries.
Lian Gong Shi Ba Fa or simply Lian Gong, another artistic technique taught by Avinash, was born the brainchild of Zhuang Yuan Ming. “This physical technique, if practiced with dedication, can be your lifeline for postural problems as well as troubles usually associated with joints”, Avinash points out.
Apart from Dao Yin techniques and Lian Gong Shi Ba Fa, Avinash is also an expert in Ninjitsu training. The entire structure of Ninjitsu revolves around being ‘invisible and invincible’. “Invisibility is a quality that anyone can achieve. It’s as simple as walking on the road yet retaining your anonymity but being aware of impending dangers all along. That’s the trick of Ninjitsu”, clarifies Avinash.
While most people believe physical techniques are only about speed, Avinash says that it’s completely the other way around. “If speed is what you want to master, then being slow is what you need to learn. Unless you’re absolutely comfortable with the steady finesse of the steps, speed will forever elude you” Avinash declares.
To add to all his merits is the fact that Avinash Subramany is overlooking the opening of the first Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong center in India, here in the city in December 2009! Presently he coaches at the Indian Heritage Academy, Koramangla.
