Now, an MBA on babies!
A Masters in Business Administration is what we think of when we talk about MBA. A Bangalore maternity care, though, begs to differ and has come up with a course that uses the same abbreviation yet differs vastly in course content. The Cradle, based in Jayanagar, has started a one- of- a- kind course called the ‘Management in Baby Affairs’ (MBA) to facilitate the development of a newborn baby.
“Management in Baby Affairs or MBA is best availed by mothers- to- be. The perfect time to go ahead with the course is when a woman is in her final stage of pregnancy, preferably the ninth month. This timeframe gives her ample opportunity to observe her own limitations and learn to care for the baby, in the best possible way”, says Vidya Rao, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Cradle.
The Management in Baby Affairs course delves into the area of baby care and explores baby hygiene and certain restrictions that the mother should put on people surrounding the baby, lactation standards and methods, bathing basics to avoid infections and other diseases, chord care with reference to the umbilical chord, nappy changing myths and truths, soothing techniques to put a child to rest and precautions to keep in mind while traveling with your child. Dressing up the baby and tips on Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) are also part of the MBA curriculum at the Cradle. “We have tried to keep the MBA programme short and crisp so that new mothers can grasp the subject of baby care easily without having to depend on sources who are not sure of the basics themselves”, states Rao.
The Cradle would never have come up with the idea of a Management in Baby Affairs programme unless the patients felt the need for it. “MBA at the Cradle was conceived based on the needs of the patients here. Invariably, once the delivery is over patients feel the need to have an expert at hand. That’s when we thought of making the mothers the experts”, claims Rao. The programme is also open to everyone. “Anybody from the grandparents to the father of the baby are welcome to do the MBA. Learning here is more important than the person who learns it. Women who have undergone maternity care elsewhere can also join”, says Rao, who’s absolutely thrilled about the response to the course.
The Management Baby Affairs programme takes a concise approach to baby care and has a duration of six hours, the charge being Rs.3000.
