Speed Date in Bangalore

Speed Dating might be a concept that is popular in the west , but it is now fast catching up in India too. MyBangalore explores Bangalore’s entry into the speed dating avenue.

‘It was a concept that was made popular by movies and serials and we thought Bangalore would be the perfect place where an idea like ‘speed dating’ can quickly catch up.’ says Ragesh Nair operations manager at Zeroin Management referring to his brainchild ‘Cupid Online’ which will herald the entry of the concept of  speed dating in the city.

‘Many working professionals make this city their home and most of them don’t have time to go out and meet new people and that is why we think a concept like speed dating will be successful.’ Zeroin first tested out the concept in March by organizing their first speed dating session. This was cancelled as they noticed that women were apprehensive about ‘speed dating’. This time around they have a website, registration process and a filtering process in place so that women feel comfortable.

With hectic lifestyles and work occupying most of the day, young professionals in the city don’t have the time for love. Cupid Online is targeted mainly at people who are ‘serious’ about meeting new people. ‘We are still in the process of developing our site which should be up and running in the first week of May’. People interested in speed dating first need to get in touch with the management of Cupid Online with an enquiry. People interested will be quizzed to verify if they are suitable candidates who are not in it ‘for a lark’. Post the verification by Zeroin, candidates will have to fill out an application form and pay a fee of Rs 750 which will entitle them one trial speed date and lifetime membership where they can participate in as many sessions as possible.

According to Ragesh, speed dating sessions will be organized in various clubs/lounges in the city the venue of which the participant will be notified one week in advance. The entire speed dating session will be held from 6:30pm to 8:00pm which will have girls seated on one side of the table and guys will be seated on the other side. A guy and a girl can interact for 3 minutes after which they will get a minute to make notes before meeting the next person. The girls will remain seated while the guys will move from meeting one girl to the next.

Zeroin does not encourage the participants at the speed dating session to exchange contact information from people they are interested in. They prefer the candidates exchange through the website, where once the speed date is over candidates can log onto their account and select the candidate’s profile who they are interested in. If both parties are interested in the each other, the system will see a match and send each candidate the contact information of the other for further interaction.

‘Sometime approaching people to tell them you like them is a task and this can be embarrassing if the other person does not feel the same and this is taken care of with the system finding a match between the candidates.’ The candidates will be sorted out in age groups like 20 to 25 years, 25- 30 years and so on and so forth and the success of the Bangalore speed dating session will see them expanding to other cities like Mumbai and Chennai as well.

Hi Ragesh,
Please remember that not everyone likes to engage with a limited age-group of people (25-30, or 20-25 or anything else). So, instead of enforcing meetings of specific age-groups, try & experiment with broader ranges, viz. 20-35, or 16 - 36

Yes Hemanth this concept is quite old. It was started off in the US in the early 90's. Yet, this concept is still nascent in India.

Please dont mistake Cupid Online for a matrimonial agency, we're not! We conduct speed dating sessions which primarily is a platform for like minded individuals to meet & who knows if the participants have something in common & sparks fly in those 3 mins, it could be the beginning of a life long relationship :)

No wonder, the idea is cool in this fast paced life.

The idea is ages old.. Reminds me of "sawayamvar" , in times of Ramaayan where lot of kings ( & warriors) used to attend a "sawayamvar" and the bride could choose one of them :-)

Will see how this shapes up once they are Live in May..
