Description

Introduction:

Health care Sector in India is booming. Healthcare establishments which are providing healthcare services are generating waste from various activities in hospital .This waste can be hazardous, toxic and even lethal because of their high potential for diseases transmission.

Consequent to the publication of Gazette Notification on Bio-medical Waste Management Act in 1998 by Govt. of India (Ministry of Environment&Forests), it has become mandatory for various hospitals and health institutions to implement these guidelines. In spite of the fact that the biomedical waste is a great health hazard, the awareness and knowledge regarding biomedical waste handling and disposal is abysmally low, both in public and health care workers. ICRI has recognized the need to address these issues and accordingly proposes to conduct a one-day Training Program–cum–Seminar ‘Bio-Medical Waste’. Apart from imparting training, knowledge dissemination and advocacy, the Program would provide an excellent platform for mooting innovative strategies to integrate Bio-Waste Management as a corporate social responsibility, instead of mere social cost.

Objective:

The training program focused on the legislative controls that are in place to deal with waste substance, practical measures available to minimize waste and techniques to help mange resources better.  Specifically the program is focused on:

·         Updated Guidelines for the segregation, management and disposal of infectious or potentially infectious biomedical waste.

·         Reduce the incidence of health care worker and the public from contacting a disease or injury from biomedical waste.

·         Provide guidance to the health care system on the opportunities for waste minimization and the reduction of air contamination from incineration of biomedical waste.

·         Strategies and appropriate handling techniques for  bio-medical waste management

·         Create awareness about Hospital accreditation with focus on guidelines related to healthcare safety issues related with disposal of Bio-Medical Waste.

·         Understand the new technologies available for Safe disposal of Bio medical Waste from Environment friendliness point of view & infection control in hospitals

·         Economic issue involved in Management of Bio-Medical Waste & Role of Public-Private Partnership
