Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road
MG Road is such a place in Bangalore that is frequented by visitors as well as natives who have considered the city home for decades. During the reign of British, this part of Bangalore was known as South Parade and was renamed as Mahatma Gandhi (MG) road post independence.
MG road is one of the longest roads in Bangalore that runs from Trinity circle to Anil Kumble circle and is perpendicular to the Brigade Road. MG road retains its old world charm and at the same time enjoys a lot of modern amenities.
MG road is a shopping hub; here one can find everything from electronic equipment to books, magazines, photography supplies, silk saris of traditional and even modern designs, antiques, textiles, garments and general goods. Many famous shopping malls of Bangalore are situated here. They are Shrungar Shopping Complex, Barton Court, Public Utility Building, Spencer's Super Market, the Coir Board showroom, Natesan's Antiquarts, Big Kids Kemp, Saree Kemp, Nalli Silks, Cauvery Arts and Crafts emporium and others. There are also few little shops tucked away behind the big malls. Most of them have great items on display that come at a lower price.
This part of city not only houses shops and malls but also eateries. You could find regular reasonable food outlets as well as classy hotels. Some of the best hotels of Bangalore like Taj Residency, Park and Oberoi are located at the end of Trinity circle, along MG Road.
M. G. Road hasn’t stopped at retail stores and food outlets only. A large number of financial institutions like ING Vysya, Vijaya Bank, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Citibank, HSBC, Scotia Bank, BNP Paribas, Standard Chartered and Deutsche Bank are situated here. (see more)
